How to perform it

Step-by-step instructions

  1. 01Set an incline bench inside a rack, lie back with your feet planted, and unrack a light barbell to straight arms directly above your shoulders.
  2. 02Keep your elbows locked, wrists stacked under the bar, and head and upper back supported while holding the bar steady.
  3. 03Without bending the elbows, reach the bar toward the ceiling by sliding the shoulder blades forward and lifting the shoulders slightly from the pad.
  4. 04Pause at the top of the small range without shrugging toward your ears, arching your back, or turning the movement into a press.
  5. 05Draw the shoulder blades back against the bench under control while the arms remain vertical, then reset before the next repetition.
