How to perform it

Step-by-step instructions

  1. 01In a clear walking lane, use a wide comfortable grip to press or push-press a light barbell to locked arms overhead.
  2. 02Brace your trunk, keep the ribs down, and press actively into the bar so it remains stacked over your shoulders and midfoot.
  3. 03Step forward far enough to plant the whole lead foot, then lower the rear knee toward the floor while the front knee tracks over the toes.
  4. 04Keep the bar over your midline and torso upright as you drive through the front foot and bring the rear leg forward into the next stride.
  5. 05Continue with controlled alternating lunges, and stop to lower the bar safely if the elbows bend, the bar drifts, or your balance deteriorates.
