How to perform it

Step-by-step instructions

  1. 01Confirm that the path behind you is clear and stand upright with your feet about hip-width apart.
  2. 02Reach one foot backward and place the toes and ball of the foot down before lowering the heel.
  3. 03Transfer your weight onto that foot only after it is secure, then repeat with the other leg using short, deliberate steps.
  4. 04Keep your trunk upright and glance behind you as needed without leaning, crossing your feet, or rushing.
  5. 05Continue for the prescribed distance or time, then bring your feet together and stop under control.
