How to perform it

Step-by-step instructions

  1. 01Set a stable box behind you at the depth you can control, then support the bar across the fronts of your shoulders with your elbows lifted.
  2. 02Stand close enough to reach the box safely, set your feet in your squat stance, and brace your trunk.
  3. 03Bend your hips and knees to squat back and down until your glutes make controlled contact with the box.
  4. 04Pause briefly while keeping your feet planted, trunk braced, and elbows high; do not relax onto the box or rock backward.
  5. 05Drive through your whole feet to stand, keeping your knees aligned with your toes and the bar balanced over your midfoot.
