How to perform it

Step-by-step instructions

  1. 01Set an incline bench high enough for the barbell to clear its frame, position the bar beneath your shoulders, and lie face down with your chest fully supported.
  2. 02Take a shoulder-width overhand grip, let your arms hang straight, and plant your feet while keeping your neck neutral and shoulders away from your ears.
  3. 03Pull the bar toward your lower chest or upper abdomen by driving the elbows back and drawing the shoulder blades together.
  4. 04Pause when the bar approaches the bench without lifting your chest from the pad, shrugging, or bending your wrists.
  5. 05Lower the bar under control until the elbows straighten and the shoulder blades reach forward naturally, then reset before the next repetition.
